At Home, Working

The pending post-it list never lets up.

Words get written, exploding on the screen in gazillions; not one of them is for my Work In Progress (WIP).

The cell phone rings intermittently--morning,
noon, night. Regular work briefings. Emergency calls to "please accommodate" new work within tight deadlines.

The calendar polar bear gives me quiet, understanding company.

Work doesn't suck. It brings in money, much needed for survival. But...

In trying to resuscitate my bank account, I seldom find time for the joys that filled my inside. I miss visiting my blog pals. The mind yearns for those daily doses of laconic, exquisite, epigrammatic cyber inscriptions. The heart longs to go and say a hello to the authors of those inscriptions, dear friends, all.

The WIP unassumingly positions itself at the bottom of the "work" heap, not pestering to be paid attention to. "I will wait," it says "for the moment you are ready to pick me up with love, not because you have to, but because it will bring joy to the spirit. I know you will, no worries. Do tend to the ailing coffers first."

Here is someone trying to find her feet in the land of freelancers. That's all that keeps me away from here lately. Trust me, I am still...

At Home, Writing.

  1. Nice ending. I'm with you totally. I have to back off and get things done too, if I actually plan to get them done. Maybe I'll pick Friday as my day to make the rounds, so I can work on all the other days. Stop by anytime. I'll keep a light on for you.

  6. Scott, now there's an idea. Picking one day to do the rounds. I will try doing that on Sundays. Thanks for keeping the light on, friend. It's always a pleasure visiting you. Hope you're doing well. :)

Miss reading those wonderfully-written, educative posts, Bernita. Really miss them.

The desk--I try to keep it uncluttered, since I spend so much of my day at it. Can't work amid clutter. :P.

Bhupinder, don't get me wrong. Lots of "freedom" in freelancing. No one breathing down your neck, no one yelling at you simply because they don't like your face, the joy of sneaking into the TV room when cricket is on... This is one space where you actually get rewarded for sincere work without having to play the games that are so integral to the corporate marketplace.

That etymological information is so interesting! I would have thought it was a newer word. Never knew it had been coined that early. Thanks for sharing it.

Cesar, you know how much I appreciate those good wishes. A bunch of the same back at you. Thanks, friend. :)

Susan, I have missed reading your charming posts. Hope to catch up soon. Thanks a ton for dropping by. :)

WA, forget? It's impossible to forget such wonderful friends like you. Like I told Scott, I will try to steal at least one day of the week to visit my blog buddies. Thanks for the support. Means a lot to me. :)

Bk, I know what you mean; that can be so frustrating,no? For me, it's just work pressure that's been unrelenting for a while. Otherwise, autumn isn't treating me too badly. :)

  14. Aww, Simran. So sweet of you to drop by with those good wishes. Thanks to a rather challenging freelance assignment, I just got past a torturous weeks of late nights, little sleep, and a tough battle with pesky time. Looking forward to some "normal" days ahead. I've missed you too; hope to be reunited with all of you soon.

    Stay well. :)
